Group debate in Gener Class

This photo is taken during the first Gender Class held in 2012. After class teaching Gender Instructor of Shem Women's Group arranged a dabating session for the students. The dabate is focued on where it is socialy problem or selve issues that forced rural Tibetan women have relatively low social status.

The whole class was divided into groups and everybody in the groups was encouraged to give ones own idea for rejection.Therefore, the debate took much longer than it was designed by Shem Staff since all the members were very motivated to talk.

After the debate one of the Gender instructor finalized the result and it showing the problems of rural Tibetan women in low social status is because of both social and self problems. The conclusion was made for solving the problems that women themselves have to build self-confidence and improve their life skills, however, it is very essencial providing equal position,status,education and opportunities to local women by the society is the most crucial part for women getting empowered.

Gender Specialist(Fengyuan) giving training to Shem members

Fengyuan, as a specialist in Gender Studies focusing on domestic abuse, has volunteered to give a two days training for Shem members in Dec 2011.

During her training she gave brief introduction to Gender Studies and helped Shem members to analysis social division; she also came up with various activities related to group division and self reliance and so on.

This photo is taken during group discussion in Gender Class by Basonlhamo, who is a full time staff and Gender instrutor of Shem Women's Group.

Gender Class is a crucial part in one of Shem's Core Project since Shem's inception 2003. This class is to mainly help young Tibetan college women raise gender awareness and discover their own potential; it is also designed to encourage them to fight for better life, further education and more opportunities. And a stage for discussing gender issues that are rarely shared and discussed back at their own communities is provided to the Tibetan young women by this class as well

We are looking for people who are interested in cultural exchange and volunteering with us for our education based organization. We are also looking for some one who can market and manage our guest house which is a source of our funding for our rural youth education and awareness center.

We have opportunities for an overall cultural exchange, volunteering to teach English, Maths and Computers. Help us in building a youth and women's center. every single soul is invited and welcomed. Our target to bring smile to every needy kid and we are trying to help these kids throughout the year. Every volunteer can get a chance to actually see and be a part of rural India and the village people.

We are also looking for some one who is interested in helping us in market and promote our homestay which is also is a main source of funding our non profit organization.

Environmental mural

Looking for a fun and creative environmental project for kids? My environmental club, "Los Tucanes", in Honduras went around to all the local stores collecting aluminum bottle caps that normally would have been incinerated. We created a mural to hang in the school by hammering them to a large plywood board. Not only were we beatifying the school with an environmental message, but we were recycling!

We just wrote a common slogan, but with enough time and bottle caps, you can get really creative with your mural design. And the kids love it!
