Neary Khmer
Siem Reap, Cambodia
Volunteer Online Positions Available
IT, fundraising and editiorial volunteer
Neary Khmer welcomes volunteers who could work for a minimum of three months. Any shorter than this, leads to precious time taken by staff to help the volunteer with translation and other supports.
Neary Khmer staff have only basic english and therefore any volunteers need to be interested in learning Khmer either before they come or whilst they are in Siem Reap.
Accommodation is not provided and depending on resources at the time, a computer may be available however Neary Khmer has very old computers only (donors do not like to provide office equipment) as they prefer to give money directly to the beneficiaries. Whilst this is well understood by NK and the Board of Directors, it is impossible for Neary Khmer to work without administrative support e.g. this website update can only be written using a computer and internet (all of which costs the organisation!)
Hence, it is recommended that any volunteer bring their own computer and where possible, contributed to office costs, including internet etc.
Neary Khmer is always in need of assistance with updating their own website (www.nearykhmer.org), fundraising and editing proposals and reports therefore anyone wishing to help with this (either in Cambodia or remotely but preferably native english speaker) would be welcomed by Neary Khmer.

Cost for Volunteers
Neary Khmer is unable to provide any accommodation however, where possible, a motorbike will be made available if Neary Khmer has a spare one to use. All staff use motorbikes to go to the field. Neary Khmer does not have a car.
For cost of living in Siem Reap it is best to be in contact with a former volunteer which can be arranged for those interested in coming to assist Neary Khmer.
Volunteer Placement Logistics
Neary Khmer requires a minimum stay of three months. Longer is also possible.
All travel to and from Cambodia, and all living costs withing Cambodia have to be covered by the volunteer.
Volunteer Skills Needed
Khmer language a definite advantage as it will mean the volunteer is 'up and running' immediately.
Cambodia is not an easy place to work with high poverty levels, poor infrastructure, low levels of literacy and very few people who speak good english. Some of the Neary Khmer staff speak english however conversations need to be slow for them to comprehend.
Volunteers need to be flexible, highly motivated and able to adapt to an ever changing situation.
