Cost for Volunteers
HI is an all-voluntary organisation with no paid staff. We only accept volunteers who are wholly self-funded and can stay a minimum of 21 days.
Your costs will average $10 per day if working out of the capitol city of Leh, or $5 per day if working in a remote village.
Ladakh is in the heart of the Himalayas. Everything is straight up or straight down. Services are limited, winters are cold, and the people are fabulous! Vols need to be healthy and fit and like to sing and dance with villagers.
Volunteers pay their costs directly to the local provider.
Volunteer Placement Logistics
All our projects are in territory above 3500 metres. We request volunteers stay for one week before starting service (to acclimitise) and provide at least 14 days service to any HI project.
Volunteer Skills Needed
HI has 2011 volunteer placements for:
Teachers and Librarians, Computer skills teachers in remote village schools participating in internet exchanges of teaching-learning units.
OTs, PTs, SLPs, Women's health counsellors and Mental Health specialists working in the District Hospital's Paediatric Handicapped Unit and HI's Trauma Counselling project (from the 2010 floods)
