Alterna is a young and rapidly developing non-profit organization. Over the past two years, we have supported a number of innovative social enterprises in Guatemala. This year, we are launching a campaign to reach the best social and environmental entrepreneurs of the Guatemalan altiplano. We will select a cohort of “Alterna Entrepreneurs” and work closely with them to cultivate their businesses and achieve their goals.

We are looking for highly business-literate fellows who can help us to deliver our high-quality, tailored business support to this cohort of entrepreneurs. The fellows will be intimately involved in the early stage development of innovative social enterprises. The fellows will work with the entrepreneurs, providing vital hands-on support and advice on all aspects of business development, from strategy to market research.

This is a 4 month to one year role with the possibility of extending. It would suit a recent business school graduate who is looking to gain varied experience in an exciting and rapidly growing non-profit organization, operating in a fast-growing field.

This position is a unique opportunity to support the design process of the image and tools of a wide range of social enterprises, with great room for creativity and proactivity.

This position will have an invaluable direct impact in an array of social entrepreneurs and their clients.

Alterna’s cohort of entrepreneurs will each have different business models, and different products or services, so the Strategic designer will need to have a flexible approach to each entrepreneur.

1)Branding
• The Strategic designer will be leading the branding process and institutional identity of each social enterprise. We expect him/her to develop an intimate working relationship with each entrepreneur.
• Most entrepreneurs that enter Alterna will work towards (re-)launching new businesses and ventures. The Strategic designer will work with each entrepreneur to help them develop a unique brand and image for their enterprise.

2)Marketing materials
• The Strategic designer will collaborate with the Program manager to define the marketing materials needs of each entrepreneur.
• The Strategic designer will produce high-quality marketing materials for the social enterprises. He/she will make sure to adapt each material to the local context and the communication channels.
