Volunteer Online Positions Available
Web Designer
We would like to completely revamp our web site, but no one currently involved with the Escuelita has the skills necessary to do so. It would be wonderful to have a web site that was easy to navigate, accessible, and that effectively conveyed our story to potential volunteers and donors. This could be accomplished remotely and would be done in consultation with those who are involved with the Escuelita.

Cost for Volunteers
Average cost per day (USD): $10.00
We do not charge any tuition or fees. We only ask that our volunteers raise their own funds for travel and living expenses. We recommend that volunteers set aside $300/month (or $200 if volunteering less than two weeks) for living expenses apart from a hostel. Volunteers will not spend this much, but it is important to have a financial cushion in the unlikely event of an emergency.
We offer a basic apartment on a first-come, first-served basis, with preference given to longer-term volunteers. We ask for a donation of $25 per week to help cover the cost of renting the volunteer dorm space. Please contact us for more information.
Volunteer Placement Logistics
La Escuelita de Esperanza is always happy to receive volunteer help both from within Costa Rica and abroad. Competency in the Spanish language is necessary, as most people in the community speak perhaps only a few words of English and our small size means we are unable to employ a translator. If you are competent in Spanish and are looking to solidify your language skills while working with kids, this is a great place for you. Teachers are especially needed, particularly those with a background in English as a Second Language, art, and music education. However, such special skills are not necessary; if you enjoy working with children, you will be very much appreciated!
Volunteer Skills Needed
Needed:
- Conversational level of Spanish
- Ability and affinity for working with children
Helpful:
- Skills in art, music, drama, etc.
We also need people who are able to fundraise or offer fundraising ideas, who might be able to help with grant-writing, and we would really like to have someone volunteer who is experienced with photography and/or film.
