PISCO SIN FRONTERAS is an NGO based in Pisco, Peru. We had initially been asked to produce a documentary about the organisation, but to be honest they already had an awesome documentary made one year ago, all focused on the volunteers experience. So we decided to shift the point of view and thought about telling the story of locals who had been helped by PSF. Pisco is a even poorer reality than Cusco, people here don't really have much. Most of them are still living in tents and the crime rate is reasonably high. However we had the chance to meet incredible people here and even if I have to say this has been very hard, it also has been extremely rewarding. It is especially difficult to see long term volunteers leave the gates one last time. These are just some reactions from past and current volunteers to seeing long term volunteers, Alex and Thays, leave PSF. | Earthbag Community Centre Earthbag community centre/school in the slum neighbourhood of Jesus de Nazareth in Pisco. | Roof construction on toilet block Angle grinding rebar of the ring beam on a communal bathroom block in a very poor slum neighbourhood of Pisco | ![]() TuPark Inauguration by Shannon Ng TuPark was a park/playground project put together by Pisco Sin Fronteras, the Peace Corps, and a community in Tupac Amaru, Pisco, Peru. For months numerous volunteers contributed their time and efforts into creating this park for this community. This short video was taken on the inauguration day and shows the results of everyone's hard work. Special thanks to everyone who contributed, including the volunteers at PSF and the Operation Groundswell (OG) group. | Completed Community Bathroom projects in the poor neighbourhood of Jesus de Nazareth in Pisco The team working to complete the toilet/shower block in a slum neighbourhood where sanitation facilities are virtually non existant. | Concrete Pour at the new womens clinic Pouring the (very deep) foundations for a new womens clinic at an existing Cuban Hospital in the neighbourhood of Tupac Amaru Inca in Pisco. | Celebrating the opening of Piscos first ecological park, built by PSF Marking PSFs 3 year anniversary, the opening of this new childrens ecological park in the neighbourhood of Tupac Amaru is known to the volunteers as "Tupark". | ![]() Norma's Story by Carlo Ricci
Norma lives in Pisco, she has 4 kids and the youngest of them, Norma Noelia, was born with an imperforate anus and diagnosed with Down syndrome. Her family is extremely poor and can't afford a surgery. We hope that this video will move enough consciouses and help donate the money that they need, otherwise little Norma will die. The protagonist is Navin Mayani, a volunteer here at PSF. The two volunteers who built Norma's house are Joel Buckwell and Adam Sorensen.

| Building a school in el Molino, Pisco The first stages of building a pre-school for the residents of el Molino, Pisco, Peru. Here we are pouring the concrete floor that has been donated by successful fundraising initiatives from my hometown. | Handing over the keys to Angela The day we finally finished Angela's house project. After working as the Project Leader on this operation since the beginning it was one of the happiest days of my life to be able to provide this family with the most level basic of housing. Up to 20 people all generations from the same family lived on this tiny plot made out of makeshift houses and huts. | Come help! Plaza del Parque! Encouraging the locals to come down and help with the park! | Getting the maximum use! Try telling these kids it's only one to the see-saw :) | Community Centre A community centre we built with the support of the local Pisco municipality. They will now run a 'vaso de leche' program for the lcoal community children out of the centre. Pisco Sin Fronteras will use it to run free inter-cambio English classes, as well as other educational programs such as health and fitness initiatives. | Pisco Sin Fronteras banner
Pisco Sin Fronteras works to improve the living conditions of families affected by the earthquake by building and improving homes. We also help with community development, working in schools, teaching English and IT, and working in child care centers. We are always looking for hard-working volunteers to help the people of Pisco rebuild their lives. | ![]() Miguel's Mansion - Time lapse video of an amazing project funded by Omprakash donations.
| Boys of PSF
The guys at PSF like to work real hard, but they have a soft side too! Pictured: Berto and Victor, Alex and Jules, Joel and Jan | Girls of PSF
Girls rock the power tools at PSF just as good as the guys do. Pictured: Mel, Rayna, Amy | Modular Panels
The process of making and using a modular panel to make a home. 1) A modular frame is made at HQ from scrap pallette wood and covered with tarp, also collected from the scrap yard at a local steel factory. The tarp makes the panels wind and rain proof. 2) Wooden boards (more scrap wood) are nailed to the other side of the frame. 3) Once completed, modular frames are transported to site, where a concrete floor has already been poured. 4) Modular frames are lined up, and then bolted to the floor and the neighbouring panel. 5) Custom panels for windows and doors are also made at HQ, and fitted on site. 6) It doesn't take long for the panels to start looking like a home! | Melissa's Modular
Before, during and after shots of Melissa's Modular, a project finished on Christmas Eve for a family of five. You can read more about it here: http://www.piscosinfronteras.org/melissas-modular-a-home-for-christmas.html | Earthbag community centre
Before, during and after shots of our earthbag community centre. This is PSF's first complete earthbag structure, but we now have multiple earthbag projects planned for the future, to build more of these earthquake resistant structures. | Enjoying a day's hard work
There's nothing like the satisfaction of a day's hard work, especially if it's finished off with a beer. | Christmas Eve @ PSF
You don't have to stay at PSF for too long before it becomes your home. Volunteers decorated the HQ and had a special dinner on Christmas Eve, but not too much before Christmas Day's five-course extravaganza. | Victor's Bathroom
We don't just use modular panels to make houses - here they have been used to make the walls of a shower and toilet for Victor and his family. You can read more about the project here: http://www.piscosinfronteras.org/victors-house.html | Melissa's (before)
Before PSF installed a completely new plumbing system and then built a modular house, Melissa lived on a bare earth floor, which was soaked with raw sewage resulting from damage to the plumbing caused by the 2007 eathquake. This photo is taken in her kitchen area. | Family enjoying their new PSF modular
A concrete floor and modular home can make a massive difference to the lives of families living in and around Pisco. | Life in a desert
Pisco is next to the second driest desert in South America. On weekends, volunteers often go to the local National Park of Paracas to camp on the beach and enjoy the scenery. | Working at HQ
Every day some volunteers stay behind to work in the yard at HQ. Here they are building chairs and tables for struggling school students to do their homework at, building bunk beds for one of the families we built a house for, and making wooden toys as Christmas presents for local children. | Melissa's Modular
Building a door for Melissa's Modular. | Kids
One of the most enjoyable things about working with families in Pisco is play time with the kids. | The outskirts of Pisco
Less than a five minute drive from the central plaza in Pisco, in every direction you come across shanty towns of 'chositas' - shacks made of flattened bamboo, wood and tarp. | French School
The canteen, kitchen and toilet block we are building for a local school. At 160 square metres, it's the biggest PSF building project to date. | Ysmael's Casa
Ysmael stands with PSF volunteers who completed his modular home in October 2010. http://www.piscosinfronteras.org/ysmaelacutes-house.html | The finishing touch
Volunteers smooth out the last corner of a concrete floor built for Maria Palomino and her family of three generations, who previously lived on a dirt floor. |
Working with PSF gives you a great chance to interact with the community, whether your Spanish is perfect, or nonexistent. None of the volunteers in this picture speak much Spanish, but they still managed to build Maria Palomino the house that she wanted and forge a friendship with her and her family. | Pisco City Streets
Pisco is a bit like a building site at the moment, as the municipality dig up roads to install gas and sewage, and with houses at different stages of completion. | The PSF Family
Working, eating and relaxing with the same people every day forms ties of friendship that last a lifetime, with many volunteers leaving to travel together at the end of their stay or returning to PSF to volunteer again. | Toys for Christmas
A DIY project to make wooden toys for children in the local community who received no other toys for Christmas in 2010. | Fabiola's Mural
