Current Projects

The Kibera Girls Soccer Academy's Journalism Club has recently started their own company magazine titled Shedders, as they shed light upon the realities of Kibera. They are reporting on issues involving Education, Health, Politics, Business, Sports, and Entertainment. Partner Needs

KGSA looks for excited and motivated people from all walks of life who are interested in jumping in and getting their hands dirty. KGSA fits the volunteer's jobs to their passions and skill sets. Previous volunteers have taught classes, raised funds, worked with clubs, created and maintained the website, organized the design and building of new classrooms, and started a sack garden project to supplement the students' diets. What you do is your initiative! Bring your passion!

Financial Needs

Students (n= 138) at KGSA originally benefitted from a lunch program funded by Vision Africa (VA), a non-profit organization based in the UK. During June 2009, representatives from VA informed Abdul (Founder) that they were discontinuing their funding due to economic difficulties. The lunch program relies on 26,000ksh (~325 USD) to supply the students with four meals of githeri (maize and beans). The volunteer teachers and other staff depend upon about 1200 ksh a week for a diet of ugali, bean, rice and vegetables. Due to the lack of organized funding for the feeding program, the students are currently receiving meals from the last installment of 20,000ksh from VA and donations from former volunteers and other school supporters. We are currently searching for a selection of donors to take the burden off the school and a single aid organization. Please join our team! Adopt- A- Teacher Program: For 200 USD you can Adopt-A-Teacher for a month and help create a wage for one of the school's volunteer teachers.
