Little Field Home

Hebron, Malawi

Little Field Home was founded in 2003 with the construction of one small building in Chigamba village, Malawi. The small hut was used to house 20 homeless children. Today there are 85  children in secondary boarding school, 50 living at the Home, seven buildings, a medical clinic and fourteen workers and teachers. Hundreds of orphans in the nearby community are also supported with food and clothing. Yearly projects are funded by the nonprofit organization “Friends of Little Field Home” and directed by Shaibu Kaliati and the Orphanage Committee at Chigamba Village.

Current Projects

Health Projects:

Supports 45 HIV+ patients fully, and many more with minimal assistance. Food, baby formula, blankets, nets, fertilizer and maize are given to support the victims and their families.

* HIV/AIDS presentations are conducted throughout the area to educate the people on prevention, care and treatment.

* Support for pregnant women: Includes education and free transportation to the birthing clinic 10 miles away. This birthing clinic provides free HIV testing, educational support and vaccinations for pregnant mothers and their children.

Education Projects:

Pay the school fees for the secondary school students at the local schools, as well as the four who attend the new elite private school in Southern Malawi. The school is Matindi Secondary School in Blantyre. This school is a boarding school that has well educated, trained professionals (men and women) as teachers and matrons.

The annual cost per student at Matindi is $1,500. The total budget is $34,000 annually for all 85 secondary school students. It is important that the students pass secondary school and learn English so they can obtain employment and have a future!

Students read and do lessons in English in the Home’s library from 2-4 PM and 7-8:30 PM five days a week. Each orphaned child has received an ESL booklet and two trained tutors are conducting the lessons. This will help supplement their lack of education at the local primary school
