Cost for Volunteers

Volunteers are provided basic housing and meals with locals. Other expenses, including transportation, are the responsibility of the volunteer. From Bangkok the bus ride is about 9 hours and cost roughly US$12 each way.

Volunteer Placement Logistics

One to two volunteers total staying a minimum of three months is preferred. There is no running water, rain water is collected in large urns for drinking and bathing. Internet is available via air card and in an internet cafe in the nearby town. English is known by very few in the village, so knowing a few Thai words would go a long way. Freshly cooked food from the village and nearby market is made for each meal. If you don't like spicy food yet, you will after your stay in Plaboo!

Volunteer Skills Needed

Plaboo welcomes volunteers interested in teaching the children of the village, helping with the women's tie-dye business and working with the rice farmers.

The main task of teaching volunteers is to teach English in the Farmer Community School during the summer, from March-May. Rather than traditional classroom lessons we encourage learning through community activities, from planting trees to building bird houses. Bring your talents and skills along, the kids are ready to learn whatever you have to offer.

The women's tie-dye group functions from December-May. Volunteers are needed to help organize the business and train women in basic e-commerce skills. Learn how to make all-natural, handmade clothes and bags!

Rice is farmed from June-December. Volunteers are welcome to come live the life of a Thai rice farmer. If you have agricultural skills to teach you're welcome year-round.

Volunteers are not limited to just one of these activities, feel free to do a little of each! While these are the main tasks of volunteers, there are countless other aspects of staying in Plaboo. Any given day can bring you to a local or district community meeting on rice farming, sex education, mining or a variety of other adventures.
