Changes for New Hope
Huaraz, Peru
Volunteer Abroad Positions Available
Interns
Changes for New Hope continues to develop and grow here in Peru. To do that successfully, we need qualified people who are dedicated and focused on the projects that we are involved in.
It has been our experience that student interns, who come to us through their universities as part of their studies, offer us the best opportunities to get the job done.
Regardless of your major, we would like to invite those who can dedicate a period of time to our project, before or after your tourist activities, to advance our goals.

Cost for Volunteers
Overall costs to Volunteers vary based on where they are flying in from, personal expenses, recreational activities and housing choices. Once here in Huaraz, $20 a day should be ample to manage your everyday expenses comfortably. There is a $200 USD one time placement fee which is used to finance our work here and buys much needed items for the children. If you decide, while working with us that you would like to further contribute financially, that would be great, however there is no obligation to do so. Transportation costs, tourist type activities, personal spending money, etc. are the responsibility of the volunteer.

All potential volunteers should visit our website at www.changesfornewhope.org to understand the full scope of our project. Also be sure to fill out the volunteer application on the site to be considered. Serious inquiries only please.
Volunteer Placement Logistics
Our volunteers may number from one to several based on our specific needs at the time of inquiry. A volunteer should be able to stay for at least 1 month, however shorter times can be considered. A flexibility will be needed to adapt to, what may be for you, a dramatic lifestyle change. Huaraz is in a 3rd world country. Water is boiled before you drink it, taxi cars are 10 years old, food in restaurants are quite different from what you may be used to and the effects of poverty are blatant. Having said that, a volunteer can expect an experience that will deeply move you. It is because the needs are so vast that everything and anything that you do with and for the children and the project makes an enormous impact.
It is why Changes for New Hope was created.
If you are ready and up to the task, contact us. You will add a dimension to your life you never thought was possible. It is an experience that you will always remember fondly.
Volunteer Skills Needed
First, we would like to say that it takes a special kind of person to be a true volunteer. Secondly, we would like to say that our special kind of volunteer will have a high level of maturity and dedication to the project where we are working. We have common sense guidelines that are in place for the safety, courtesy and mutual respect of our volunteers and staff. A personal discussion of our expectations of each volunteer and what each volunteer can expect of us should take place initially once you have decided to volunteer with us.
Ideally, volunteers will be proficient in Spanish, though not absolutely necessary. Lessons are available. A day in the life of a volunteer may include working with the children to teach different subjects, art projects, computer networking, fundraising, recreational activities with the children, grunt work such as being the day's "gopher'" (go for this, go for that) picking up supplies, general housekeeping, helping on our partner project's organic farm and spending quality time visiting with families of the children. This is a general idea and by no means an exhaustive list. Also, if a certain aspect of the project is not a volunteer's particular 'cup of tea', there are other more suitable parts of our project for you to work on.
As you may see, this volunteer experience requires dedication, focus and daily attention. That said, we would appreciate it if a volunteer would block out a section of time specifically for work in our project. Tourist activities should be scheduled before or after your time as a volunteer.
We want you to be a happy volunteer.
