Current Projects
Community Development Program - Currently focused on education infrastructure, volunteers are building a new school in the rural community Saviefe-Deme, where one is now lacking.
Education Program - Engage students in the classroom.Volunteers teach and assist classes in English, Math, Science, Computer Education, or French at one of our three primary school partners.
Healthcare Program - Volunteers work with the LILIMED mobile eye clinic. In constant need of staff for their extensive rural outreach programs, they travel throughout the Volta region providing free medical services to rural villages lacking adequate healthcare.
Partner Needs
Our most pressing material needs at this time are computers so that we may establish computer classrooms at the schools we work with. Learning basic computer skills can have a tremendous impact on a child's future and we hope to give the students we work with the chance to explore the world through a computer lab at their own school.
Financial Needs
Currently, one major goal is to raise enough money to buy and donate a van to the McColin's Primary School as they are being kicked out of their current school facility.
McColin's is a school focused on providing a good education to the most underprivileged children in Ho, Ghana: orphans, and children of single parents and teenage mothers. Over the last 8 months McColin's had been constructing a dormitory facility so that they may take in and care for the orphans who need their support. Unfortunately, McColin's is now being kicked out of their current rented school facility by the landlord who has other plans, and so the dormitory must become the new school.
We will be supporting McColin's in building anew their orphanage facilities, but there are now more pressing needs. The new school is more than 2 miles from Ho, where the children live. Many of the children's parents cannot afford the transport costs of $0.30 / day to send their child to school, and it is too great a distance for them to walk. Without a bus many will drop out of school and lose their opportunity at a good education and a strong future.
They have estimated a bus appropriate for their needs to cost about $10,000 U.S. dollars. We are aiming to reach this goal by May.
While we work to raise this money, smaller donations are still very much needed.
10$ - Buy new clothes for an orphan
25$ - Buy writing supplies for an entire classroom
50$ - Buy food for an orphan for a month
100$ - Send a child to school for a year
