Want to know what it might be like to volunteer abroad?
Omprakash volunteers have been posting stories, photos and even videos from their time abroad since 2007. We now have an extensive collection of personal stories from volunteers who've worked with our partners abroad. You can browse through the most recent stories below or use the category selection tool to narrow your search. Alternatively click on the Stories tab for each organization we work with to see specific accounts from a particular organization. Be careful - you might lose a couple hours of your day in here! Happy reading.
My Progress Reportprint story
July 17, 2012
The following is a Progress Report on my work done here at Seeds of Hope since I started working as International Coordinator since May 2012 based on the objectives I had proposed as an Omprakash Volunteer Grant Recipient. Outreach, Social Media, Multimedia Stories and Sharing Ressources are the themes I had planned on doing. I will describe what I have done up to know and what I will do before the end of the year.
It is expected of me to make a long-term commitment towards Omprakash by spreading the work, recruiting new Partners abroad, advertising volunteer opportunities in my home community, or inviting more teachers and students to participate in Omprakash´s Classroom Program. As of now I have focused on recruiting Partners abroad. I am in the process of getting in contact with different organizations that are present in Huaraz in order to exchange ideas with them and invite them to join Omprakash´s Network. I have also been inviting our volunteers at Seeds of Hope to register with Omprakash and share their stories or review Seeds of Hope. Upon my return home in November, I will do further Outreach with schools and Universities in Montreal, Canada.
Omprakash relies a lot on Social Media in order to spread the word and gain visibilty. I have been contributing to the Omprakash website by writing stories about my experience at Seeds of Hope as a volunteer, and have been updating the Seeds of Hope profile by uploading new pictures and videos as well as requesting reviews from former volunteers. I make sure to post these links on Facebook, and encourage all of Omprakash´s Facebook posts as well by liking and sharing them.
A great tool on the Omprakash´s website is their Resources section. They allow sharing information and tools available to volunteers. I plan on sharing the experiences, program, planning, and tips related to the swimming program I am leading here at Seeds of Hope. I will also be sure to post pictures of the swimming lessons. I will be working on this in the coming 3 months.
I would like to take the opportunity the express my gratitude towards Omprakash. I would like to not only thank them for the opportunity they have given me through their Volunteer Grant Program but also for the amazing work they do as an organization. They are constantly bettering their website and offering more exchange of knowledge, resources and easier ways for volunteers to find opportunities that interest them. I hope that the hard work I have been doing demonstrates my gratitude towards Omprakash and look forward to continuing my contribution to their Network.
