Thank you for your interest in our 2027 Global Social Impact Internships program! Please read on and register below.

This program helps students earn academic credit while pursuing independent social impact internships around the world. Internship fields include health, engineering, education, human rights, sustainability, and gender-based advocacy.

Overall cost ranges from around $1,400 to $4,250 (plus airfare) for a credit-bearing two-month internship. This is dramatically more affordable than many similar opportunities at U-M!

Alongside your internship, you will engage in critical dialogue and reflection about the complexities of striving for justice while crossing differences of culture and power, and you will create a series of digital storytelling posts that document your experiences through lenses informed by our course themes.

Please register below to initiate your enrollment in this program. The program registration deadline is February 1, 2027, but please don't delay! The earlier you enroll, the easier it'll be for you to secure an internship.

 

What Is This?

Omprakash is a US-based global education nonprofit that has partnered with University of Michigan to create this program.

This program will help you:

  • Independently apply for and secure curated social impact internships with vetted, locally-led "Omprakash Partners" in countries around the world.
  • Access interdisciplinary curriculum, mentorship, and peer support to enrich your global learning and professional development
  • Build a digital portfolio to showcase your experience for future employers and graduate schools.
  • Earn 3 or 6 academic credits alongside your internship experience.

This program is open to all undergraduate University of Michigan students, regardless of their major or field of interest.

Official program dates are May 11 - August 17th, 2027; internships will take place between June 1 - July 31st, 2027.

 

Global Internship Options

Omprakash curates a network of 300+ social change organizations in over 50 countries, and provides a platform through which students independently connect with these organizations and apply for internships. 

For the 2027 program cycle, University of Michigan students are welcome to apply to the following pre-approved Omprakash Partner organizations across the globe (click here to open in a new tab):

  • Asociacion CREAR: Youth education in Playa Samara, Costa Rica
  • Clave de Sur: Music and performing arts education in Guasmo Sur, Ecuador
  • Ecoseva Institute: Climate and environmental fieldwork in Ladakh, India
  • Fundación En Vía: Microfinance for women entrepreneurs in Oaxaca, Mexico
  • HCDP Ghana: Community-based health, education, and infrastructure work in Ho, Ghana
  • Honduras Child Alliance: Children's education in El Porvenir, Honduras
  • Prayasam: Youth-led media and advocacy in Kolkata, India
  • Terra Sylvestris: Biodiversity monitoring in Kalamos, Greece
  • WAJAMAMA: Maternal and child health care in Zanzibar, Tanzania
  • Warm Heart Worldwide: Sustainable agriculture in Phrao, Thailand
