Welcome to the UW Nursing Global Health, Research, and Internship Program!  This program is connected to the UW Global Research, Internships, and Service Program (GRISP), a new campus-wide initiative managed by UW Study Abroad and Omprakash, a Seattle-based global education nonprofit.

Program Info and Goals

The Global Health Nursing Research, and Internship Program is for undergraduate and graduate nursing students who are interested to making an impact in the global health community. Omprakash has partnered with the Center for Global Health Nursing to facilitate a process for nurses to find global health opportunities that fit their needs. The organizations you see listed are places that Omprakash has worked with to create internship positions where they need help the most.

Entry into the Omprakash program is easy, but you will need to apply for your position like you would any other internship position and work with the organization beforehand to communicate goals and job descriptions. The Center for Global Health Nursing wants you to take the time to find organizations that fit into your goals as a global health nurse. Scholarships for travel are available and you can read more about that application process below.

Scholarship Info

After registering below, all participants will be invited to apply for scholarship funding via UW Center for Global Health Nursing. Scholarships are available up to $4,000.

You'll see that some of the questions asked in the application are specific to your program. Scholarships will be given before most of you have confirmation of the internship, so you should peruse the options before you complete the application and choose two or three organizations that you will be applying for and answer questions based on those choices.

  2. After landing on the EdGE Dashboard, you'll navigate to the Logistics section, where you'll find more info on browsing opportunities, registering for credit with UW, and applying for scholarship funding (optional).
  3. Scholarship applications are due by March 20th.  You do not need to receive a scholarship in order to participate in the program.
  4. Participants are expected to begin applying for summer internships in March.  However, you will have the opportunity to begin this process earlier if you wish to do so.
  5. If you do not receive a scholarship, you will be expected to pay the program fee by April 15th.  This fee is fully refundable up until April 30th.  We recognize that there is a good deal of uncertainty about summer travel due to public health concerns, and we do not want the payment deadline to be a source of stress amid this uncertainty.  We will be happy to work with you on a one-on-one basis to offer an extended eligibility for refund if that is the best option for you.
