Mission Statement
Our mission is to PREVENT poor children from needing to live and work on the streets of Quetzaltenango and to reintegrate children already living on the streets into society. The centerpiece of EDELAC is its primary school which provides accessible, comprehensive education to over 160 children from 5-15 years old, and support for their disadvantaged families. EDELAC operates Hogar Hovde, a safe, long-term residence currently for 20 adolescents between the ages of 9 and 18. A third program is Quetzaltrekkers, an all-volunteer organization that offers guided treks in the Guatemalan highlands, and provides financial stability for EDELAC (see separate profile.)
